Public Safety

The enforcement process means:

Assessing unauthorised building works in relation to works carried out without a building warrant approval or in relation to works carried out in contravention of approved proposals.

Assessing buildings likely to present a danger to the public generally including fire damaged buildings, unoccupied buildings and sites, and buildings undergoing alteration, repair or maintenance.

Building Operations (Scotland) Regulations

The Building Operations (Scotland) Regulations require Building Standards to:

Ensure that all building sites are effectively protected against unauthorised entry when the sites are otherwise unoccupied or when works are temporarily suspended.

Ensure that all demolition sites are effectively protected against unauthorised entry when the sites are otherwise unoccupied or when works are temporarily suspended, and additionally to ensure that such sites are left in a safe condition at the completion of the demolition works or are otherwise secured against unauthorised access.

Ensure that steps are taken by the developer to keep footpaths clear of debris, mud and materials.
