Houses in Multiple Occupation

The Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 has recently been amended by the 2000 Order for the Licensing of House in Multiple Occupation. Licenses have been required from 1 October 2000. Those premises falling within the terms of the Order will be introduced on a graduated scale as follows:

  • houses occupied by more than 5 persons (6 or more) 1 Oct 2000 – 30 Sept 2001
  • houses occupied by more than 4 persons (5 or more) 1 Oct 2001 – 30 Sept 2002
  • houses occupied by more than 3 persons (4 or more) 1 Oct 2002 – 30 Sept 2003
  • houses occupied by more than 2 persons (3 or more) 1 October 2003
