European Election - votes cast in the Scottish Borders
The European Election count took place on Sunday 7 June. The votes cast in the Scottish Borders were:

European Election - the count
The European Election count will take place on Sunday 7 June at Eildon Mill in Tweedbank, following polling day on 4 June.
The result will be announced after 9pm on Sunday.
Make your mark (X) on election day
Voters will need use a single X when they vote in the European election on 4 June. The X should be placed in the empty box alongside the chosen party or candidate. In the 2007 Scottish Parliament and local Government elections, voters were asked to use three different voting methods on three ballot papers. This time they only need to put one X on one ballot paper.
Candidates announced
The Statement of Registered Parties and Individual Candidates has been released. This document lists the names and addresses of those standing in the upcoming European Elections on 4 June 2009, and the Party (if any) that they represent.
Are you eligible to vote?
If you are not on the electoral egister you can’t vote. The register of electors can be viewed at the ERO office in Scott House, Sprouston Road, Newtown St Boswells and at Council contact centres, which can also provide voter registration forms. The forms can also be downloaded from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk and www.saa.gov.uk/scottishborders/sbc_forms.html.
Euro election 2009
More than 375 million European Union citizens will be able to vote for their chosen representative for a five-year period. There will be 736 MEPs from 27 Member States. The UK will elect 72 MEPs, including six representing Scotland. Scotland is one of 12 electoral regions in the UK. Each region has a Regional Returning Officer – in Scotland it’s Tom Aitchison, Chief Executive of City of Edinburgh Council. The local Returning Officer is David Hume, Chief Executive of Scottish Borders Council.
