Life in the Borders

Burials - Genealogy and Grounds Maintenance

Genealogy/Records of burials

The cemeteries team hold records of interments and can help people wanting to trace their ancestors.  Anyone wanting to trace an ancestor should contact the relevant office  with as much information as possible such as;

  • Names
  • Date of death
  • Address at time of death
  • Region the deceased came from etc.

The more information, the more chance of a successful search and the less time needed for the search.

There is a fee for this service.

Grounds Maintenance

There is sometimes a need to raise the level of graves as they sink over time.  The cemeteries department do this by removing the turf, raising the ground level with sand, and replacing the grass.  We do this as quickly as possible with the minimum of disturbance, but if you have any concerns, please speak to the cemeteries staff.
