Tasks and Achievements

After surveying local parents, the Partnership drew up the Early Education and Childcare Plan, a sub-plan to the main Children’s Services Plan.

This plan is reviewed every year and details the budget and strategy for the development of childcare and early education in the Scottish Borders.

Work is carried out for the Partnership by the various working groups:

  • Childcare Development
  • Training and Quality Assurance
  • Publicity and Information/Children's information service

These groups have achieved many developments:

  • over 800 new out of school care places for children in the region
  • a range of training opportunities e.g. SVQs, First Aid
  • new childminders start up grants
  • research into childcare needs of rural families, lone parents and parents of children with special needs
  • development of Children’s Information Service
