Voluntary Organisations and Charities
There are a large number of local voluntary care organisations who provide information, advice and support for people in the Borders. They also offer opportunities to get involved in the work they do - volunteers are always needed and welcomed. Information is available on the following:
- Borders Voluntary Community Care Forum
The BVCCF is an independent voluntary organisation which represents the interests of local people in the planning and provision of community care services in the Borders. They can provide you with contact details for a wide range of voluntary care organisations and support groups. - Borders Aspergers and Autism Group Support
BAAGS is a local Borders' charity supporting adults and children who have Aspergers Syndrome, Autism and related behaviours. - Borders Disability Forum
The Borders Disability Forum promotes the interests of disabled people and people who visually impaired. - Borders Independent Advocacy Service (BIAS)
BIAS provide a specialist advocacy service which provides independent support for anyone who would like help representing their views. - British Red Cross
The Red Cross is part of a global voluntary network. Some of the services provided locally include loan of medical equipment, a transport and escort service and help for people in their own homes following an illness or hospital stay. - Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland
Cruse Bereavement Care provide a free and confidential support service for anyone experiencing bereavement to help them understand their grief and cope with their loss. - The Bridge
The voluntary sector in the Borders is supported by Scottish Borders Community Development Company - known as 'The Bridge' - along with Berwickshire Association of Voluntary Service. - Scottish Borders Elder Voice
Scottish Borders Elder Voice are an independent charitable organisation which aims to promote a positive view of ageing. - The Princess Royal Trust Borders Carers Centre
