Homelessness Services

Homelessness Services are a specialist Social Work service which offers support and advice on all matters relating to housing and homelessness.  They can be contacted at:

The office is open between 8:45am - 5:00 pm every weekday although it is best to make an appointment.  You can also contact us through your local Social Work  office (these close at 3.45pm on Fridays).  In an emergency out-of-office hours, you can access the service by calling 01896 752111.

Homelessness

Specific information for people who are homeless  is available.  This includes details of the homelessness assessment process, including who you should contact if you are threatened with homelessness.

Your comments, ideas and suggestions for improving our services are always welcome.  We also want to hear from you if you are not satisfied with our service or have been refused a service.  More information is available in our comments and complaints leaflet (pdf 172kb). 

Council housing

Scottish Borders Council transferred all council housing stock to Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) on 3 March 2003.  Contact details for SBHA and all other housing providers can be found on the Scottish Borders Housing Forum website (see below).

    The Housing Strategy and Services Team are responsible for production of the Local Housing Strategy, services to the private rented sector, home energy efficiency advice, housing research and general information and advice about housing issues.

    This site provides a wide range of information and advice about housing in the Scottish Borders including:  private renting, home ownership, grants and housing benefits.  The site has a search facility that enables you to search for different types of housing such as special needs, sheltered housing, family and single-person housing.
  • Shelter Scottish Borders Housing Advice Helpline
    Scottish Borders Council fund this project which provides free and confidential advice on housing issues.  The helpline number is 0844 515 2422.

    Shelter provide free expert and impartial advice on all housing matters for homeless people, private and public sector tenants and owner-occupiers.
