How do I get a Community Care service?
The first step to getting a service is to contact your local Social Work office and ask to speak to a member of the Community Care team. They will be able to advise you about the assessment process, our eligibility criteria and the charges that may be made for a service. Alternatively, you can speak with your District or Community Nurse, Occupational Therapist or key Health Worker.
Do I qualify for a Community Care service?
The Council has a set amount of money for Community Care. Guidelines, known as eligibility criteria, make sure that people in greatest need and at most risk are first to receive services. Eligibility criteria are considered along with your assessment and will determine whether you qualify for help. More information is available both about the assessment process and our eligibility criteria. This includes information about the assessment process for carers.
How much will it cost?
Depending on your finances, you may pay the full charge or part of the charge for care services. If you are on a low income you may qualify for a reduced charge or for a free service. More information about charging is available in the following leaflets:
- information on charges for Care at Home services (pdf 140Kb)
- information on charges for permanent, temporary or respite care (pdf 156Kb)
- free personal care (pdf 78Kb).
Direct Payments
If the service you receive is funded by the Council, you may choose to use the Direct Payments scheme. Direct Payments allow you to buy care services yourself, giving you more choice about who provides the service and when. More information about this service is available from:
