Borders Care and Repair Service

The Borders Care and Repair is a new service for older people and anyone with a disability who would benefit from improvements to their home.  Services available include: 

  • home improvements - such as alterations to a kitchen, bathroom, electrical or central heating system
  • handyperson service - small DIY tasks such as home safety checks; replacing tap washers or unblocking sinks;  fitting light bulbs, smoke alarms, door locks, and curtain rails; picture hanging
  • adaptations service for people with a disability such as fitting grab rails, bathing aids or ramp access.

Who is the service for?

The service is initially available in the Central Borders but it is planned to extend the service to the whole of the Borders in the future.  It is free of charge and is available to all:

  • homeowners over 60 years of age
  • private tenants over 60 years of age
  • disabled owners or private tenants of any age.
