Services for adults with mental health needs
Review of adult mental health day services
Scottish Borders Council and NHS Borders have been working with service users, staff and carers on a review of adult mental health day services. They have produced a report called 'The Future of Adult Mental Health Day Services in the Borders' and would like to hear the views of everyone involved with the services about the issues which have been raised. The consultation period runs from 16 July to 5 October. You can download the report as a pdf (444kb) or get a copy from NHS Borders as follows:

What services are available?
There are a number of services available in the Borders to help support adults who have mental health needs. These include home care, day care and residential care as well as services provided by other voluntary and statutory organisations. To find out if you or the person you care for will be able to get a service, please contact your local Social Work office. It may not always be possible for you to get all the services you ask for as we only have limited resources. There may be a charge for Social Work services but this will depend on your finances.
Home care
This is available for people who are assessed as needing help with personal care and practical tasks in the home. For further information, please contact your local Social Work office.
Day care
Based on a person-centred approach and the recovery model, support services are provided in Eyemouth, Galashiels and Hawick. They provide a therapeutic and practical resource for people with mental health needs through one-to-one support, artwork and a range of community activities. People are encouraged to develop their own personal recovery plan.
