The Wilton Centre
The Wilton Centre opened in 1996 as a joint venture between Social Work and Lifelong Learning. The aim is to support children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties who are having difficulty accessing full-time mainstream education. The three main strands of support offered are:
- Day Placements - a young person who is experiencing difficulties in a mainstream school can be provided with part-time support at Wilton for a maximum of four half days a week. Each young person is given an individual care plan to ensure that his or her needs are met. They do not have to have been excluded from school and will remain on their local school roll. Subjects on offer include Standard Grade english, maths and science; life skills, numeracy and literacy; opportunites for personal and social development.
- Linkwork - a member of Wilton staff will spend a minimum of half a day per week working with the young person in their own school. The focus of this work can vary and may include social skills, decision making and anger management.
- Outreach support is also available, offering both group and individual work as well as a summer programme.
