Below are listed locations, times and dates where items of household refuse can be disposed of, or recycled, free of charge. You can download a useful poster showing full details of the days these facilities are available in 2007.

Please note that these facilities are not for use by commercial businesses.

Lauder - Castle Wynde
Fortnightly on Saturdays commencing 8th January from 8.00am to 11.00am

Hawick Community Recycling Centre

Newcastleton - Village Car Park
Second Saturday of each month from 9.00am to 11.00am

Jedburgh - Lothian Car Park
Third Saturday of each month from 9.00am to 11.00am

Recycling Centres and Recycling Points

Recycling facilities can be found at Community Recycling Centres and Recycling Points across the Borders. Recycling Points accept glass (brown, green or clear) and some of the following: textiles, books, tapes and paper. The Community Recycling Centres in Galashiels, Eshiels, Hawick, Selkirk, Eyemouth, Duns and Selkirk can accept a much wider range of materials for recycling.

Landfill

At the moment, there is only one operational landfill site and that is at Easter Langlee, Galashiels. NOTE THIS SITE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE DISPOSAL OF DOMESTIC WASTE. Please use the Community Recycling Centre adjacent to the landfill site for this.
The current opening hours for the landfill site are:
Monday 7.30am to 11.55am and 12.30pm to 3.30pm
Tuesday to Friday 7.30am to 11.55am and 12.30pm to 4.00pm
The landfill site is closed on Saturday & Sunday.
