Problems with Protected Trees

Responsibility for the managment of trees, including protected trees, always rest with the owner of the land upon which they stand.  Where a tree which requires attention is protected e.g. by a Tree Preservation Order, the owner or owner's agent should contact the Council's Landscape Architects for approval of the proposed works before taking any action. (The maximum penalty for illegal works to a protected tree is a fine of £20,000.) Owners are recommended to take professional advice and further details of local contractors can be obtained on request.
