Waste Awareness in Schools

Waste Aware Scottish Borders
Eco Schools

Scottish Borders Council is committed to raising awareness about the 3 Rs - Reduce Reuse Recycle – and to changing attitudes and behaviour towards waste. The Council fully supports the Eco-Schools programme, which provides a structured approach to the environment and sustainability issues.

The SBC Recycling Team can visit schools, youth and community groups to promote Waste Awareness. They can give talks, run workshops or classroom events about all aspects of waste minimisation. They also attend community events (like the agricultural shows and community groups’ meetings) to promote Waste Awareness. If you would like the Recycling Team to visit your group, please e-mail us.

Resources

The materials listed below are used by the Recycling Team in the Borders. They cover various issues and cover a range of ages, but we recognise that they are limited so we have identified external websites which have further resources.

Eco-Schools

The international Eco-Schools programme provides a simple framework for schools to analyse their operations and become more sustainable. It is designed to encourage whole school action for the environment. The Council's Eco-Schools Officer supports all SBC schools in their progress through the environment-awareness programme.
