Historic Sites: how many are there?

Our Historic Environment Record (HER) contains information about historic sites and grows as new discoveries are made. We currently hold information on more than 14,000 "ancient" or "historic" locations. The record also contains maps, aerial photographs and other information about the Borders from the earliest times to the present day. Many of the records are stored on computer, but these are backed up by a reference collection of manuscripts, photographs, drawings and maps.

The information contained in this record guides how we look after historic sites and what use we make of them.
