Life in the Borders

Welcome to Scottish Borders Eco-Schools

The aim of these web-pages are to give pupils, teachers, parents, carers and others information on the Eco Schools Programme in Scottish Borders. We also hope that it will help local schools to become recognised Eco-Schools. Whether you are just beginning your eco-journey or are applying for the highest level of accreditation, the coveted Green Flag we are here to help.

What are Eco-Schools?

The Eco-Schools programme is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is a recognised award scheme that accredits schools who make a commitment to continuously improve their environmental performance. Eco-Schools can raise awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues through activities linked to the curriculum.  Read more.

Our partnership with M&S

Scottish Borders Eco-challenge
Marks & Spencer (M&S) has joined forces with Scottish Borders Council to announce an exciting environmental initiative which will help to boost the eco-status of all schools in the region.

M&S Galashiels inspires Borders pupils to get greener

The first of this years school visits to M&S's eco-store in Galashiels will take place on the 23rd November 2009.

The educational visits give pupils the chance to learn what M&S is doing to meet their target to be carbon neutral by 2012 as part of their ‘Plan A’ initiative.
