Scottish Borders Archive & Local History Centre

We have an extensive collection of Archive material including

  • Valuation rolls of property
  • County Council records, pre 1975
  • Parish Council records
  • School log books
  • Family records
  • Records of clubs, societies, churches, mills, businesses, farms, estates

Please note

Burgh records are held in a number of other locations

Most archives are unique and irreplaceable
It is vital that every effort is made to preserve them. Documents are kept in an air-conditioned strongroom and only pencil may be used by researchers to minimise the risk of damage to documents

We welcome archive donations
We are always pleased to hear from people who have documents, maps, photographs etc. on the Scottish Borders and are willing to gift them or deposit them with us.
