Services

Loans

Adults and children may borrow up to 10 items at a time. Members of mobile libraries may borrow up to 30 items. Some material is for reference only and may not be borrowed. Items which are out on loan or are available in another branch can be requested at a cost of 50p for adults , 30p for concessions, and no charge for children.

Books

Items may be borrowed for up to 3 weeks at no charge, fines will be charged for items returned late.

Videos & DVDs

Videos can be hired for 1 week at a cost of £1.80, DVDs for £2.50, DVD box sets for £3.50. Fines will be charged for items returned late.

Music CDs

Music CDs can be hired for 3 weeks at a cost of £1.00, fines will be charged for items returned late.

CD-ROMs

Some CD-ROMs are reference only and must be used in the library, others can be hired for 1 week at a cost of £1.50, fines will be charged for items returned late.

Talking Books

Items may be borrowed for up to 3 weeks at no charge, fines will be charged for items returned late. There is no charge for requesting talking books.

Inter Library Loans

Items which are not held by Scottish Borders Library Service can be borrowed from another library. Costs are £4.50 per item, £2.00 for concessions

Requests

If an item is in stock in one of our libraries or is on loan to some-one else can be requested on payment of the current request charge. You can place a hold on the item yourself through the library catalogue or ask a member of library staff to do it for you.

Concessions

These apply if you are over 60, under 16, unemployed or a full time student.

Facilities

Public access computers

These are available in all libraries and provide free access to the library catalogue and to the Internet. They also have MS Office (including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access) installed and a number of educational CD-ROMs. Please check the library catalogue for CD-ROM details.

If you have problems using the mouse or keyboard, or seeing the screen we have various items that could help please ask a member of staff.

Internet access

This is available to use free of charge in all libraries but booking is advisable. Computer printing is charged at 15p per sheet for black and white, 30p per sheet for A4 colour, 25p per sheet for A3 black and white and 45p per sheet for A3 Colour. Floppy Discs and CD-RWs can be purchased in the libraries. Please read the Acceptable Use Policy prior to use. A separate parental consent form is required prior to children using PCs. Internet use is filtered. You can check what Adult Filter Categories and what Junior Filter categories are applied.

Listening Post

A number of libraries have a listening post holding Music CD's that you can sit and listen to in the library. You can choose which Music CD you want to listen to as well as any individual tracks you want to listen to.
