Children's Library Services

What's in the Library?

Each Library has a special children's section with books for all ages, including baby books, story and picture books, early readers, information books and books on tape. There are computers and computer games for you to use. Look out for Videos, DVDs and Music CDs too!

Library Activities

There are lots of activities and events such as crafts and storytelling organised in the library All these events are free and are usually held during school holidays, after school or on Saturday mornings Look out for posters in your local library, check the web site or ask the librarian.

Joining the Library

How do I Join?

Its free to join and you are welcome at any age. Ask the librarian for a joining form. Get your mum or dad or whoever looks after you to fill it in and take it back to the library with something that shows where they live, for example a driving licence, gas or electicity bill. You will be given your own library card that lets you borrow things from any of our libraries.

How many things can I take out?

You can borrow up to 10 items at a time, usually for 3 weeks. You can keep them longer if no-one else wants them, just phone, renew them online using through the catalogue or ask in the library. When you've finished bring them back and borrow some more.

What happens if my book is late back?

You will not be fined for bringing your books back late but returning them on time lets others enjoy them too.

What if I lose a book or other item?

Tell the librarian as soon as possible. You or whoever looks after you may be asked to pay something towards replacing the item

How do I find the books I want?

The Computers have a link to the library catalogue which lists all the books. The library staff will show you how to use it.

What if I lose my card?

If you lose your card tell the library staff as soon as possible. You may have to pay a small charge to get a new card.

Can you keep a book for me?

Yes! If you can't find what you want on the shelf you can reserve it using the library catalogue or ask us to get it from another library. The library staff will show you how to do it.

Remember if you need any help with anything ask the library staff!
