Social Inclusion Partnership
SOCIAL INCLUSION PARTNERSHIP
Scottish Borders Social Inclusion Partnership is a multi-agency initiative which aims to promote the inclusion and involvement of disadvantaged young people aged 10 – 25. In particular, SBSIP aims to enable these young people to influence decisions about their lives in areas such as leisure, health, education and employment.
Since 1999 eighteen pilot projects have received SIP funding. Additionally, three agencies have been able to maintain services during gaps in major funding with short term assistance from the SIP. In all the SIP has disbursed funding to three Council departments and fifteen other organisations concerned with the welfare of young people. An average of over 300 young people per year have benefited.
In line with guidance from Communities Scotland, SBSIP is developing a function which is more than merely a project funder. The current action plan aims to ensure effective and sustainable mechanisms for young people to engage in democratic processes including Community Planning.
