Why Literacies Learning?
In a changing world, we may need to use our skills in different ways:
-
to express ideas and opinions
-
to get information
-
to make decisions and solve problems
-
to learn and participate in our communities
What do we do?
We work with people to help them to develop their skills and use language and numbers in their everyday lives. We place peoples intentions, aspirations and values at the centre of their learning giving it purpose and relevance.
Who do we work with?
We prioritise work with people who have limited initial education and are:
- unemployed
- facing redundancy
- speakers of other languages
- in low skilled jobs on low incomes
- living in disadvantaged areas
- dealing with disability
What do we offer learners?
-
1:1 tuition and guidance
-
Short courses
-
Group work opportunities
-
Accredited learning - SQA
We work with learners to help them decide what they want to do and how they want to do it.
People's reasons for learning are varied.
We aim to support people to gain confidence in their personal lives, help their children learn, prepare for further learning and employment and take part in community activities and groups. Learners work to individual or group plans that outline their goals and priorities.
