Arts

The Arts Service delivers a variety of projects, activities and services:

Arts Outreach

  • performing arts partnership: developing youth drama and dance provision and working with professional performers and companies;
  • a voice of my own: social issues film-making project, working with young people;
  • cultural co-ordinator: bringing schools and the arts community closer together;
  • traditional arts initiative: archives, recording, publishing and concert programmes to support traditional music, song and dance, and storytelling from the Scottish Borders;
  • literature development & community publishing: new work – poetry, prose and plays –by Scottish Borders writers.

ARCS: arts, resources, communities, schools – initiative

  • fundraising: helping local organisations with funding advice and support;
  • arts marketing: secondments with local organisations to help them develop their marketing strategies and actions;
  • artstore: community equipment resource – lighting, cinema, exhibition systems and filmbank, film-making resource;
  • grants: grant schemes for local organisations.

MAD: marketing & audience development

  • what’s on: quarterly event and venue listing;
  • strategic marketing initiatives: supporting the development of e-ticketing.

EVENT & FESTIVAL development

  • touring consortium: bringing the best of touring theatre and dance to Scottish Borders;
  • get creative: programme of children’s theatre, dance and puppets and participatory activities;
  • national companies: supporting concerts, performances and education work by the national companies;
  • festival development: working with, seed-funding and promoting local festivals; e.g. storytelling festival and puppet & animation festival.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

  • Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre: supporting with and partnering new venue;
  • : progressing cultural quarter development;
  • Artists’ Studio Space: working with WASPS and developing St Mary’s Mill studios in Selkirk;
  • developing new, large-scale public art project for Scottish Borders landscapes;
  • creative arts business network: framework of business and marketing supports;
  • research and mapping: social and economic impact studies
