Market Surveillance

We carry out our enforcement role in a variety of ways. We visit trade premises, including manufacturers, importers and retailers, on a regular, risk assessed basis. During the course of these visits, we check that weighing and measuring equipment is accurate, goods are safe and correctly labelled, prices are displayed and any descriptions used are true.

We also sample and test goods and services for quality, quantity and safety, and use independent test houses where appropriate.

We help local businesses to comply with consumer legislation and operate the Home Authority Principle.

Visits are made to traders following complaints or information via our consumer advice service regarding alleged breaches of trading laws. Complaints and enquiries can be made by telephone, on 01896 823922, or by e-mail
