Farming

Agriculture is still important across the Borders, from the rich, fertile arable land in the east of the area to the hill sheep farms in the western upland areas. The strong farming community is affected by changes in the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) (external website). The Council plays a key role in influencing the future development of CAP.

Statistics on agriculture are gathered by the Scottish Government. More information is available on the agricultural census (external website).
