Scottish Borders Film Focus
The Scottish Borders Film Initiative was first established in 1998 to encourage on-location film* production in the Scottish Borders as part of a larger project covering Edinburgh, Lothians and the Borders. Funded by Scottish Borders Council, the then Scottish Enterprise Borders and EU Objective 5b and Objective 2 funding, the film initiative has established a co-ordinated information service for film locations and facilities in the Borders.
The project has:
- created a database of film locations, services, facilities and local agency contacts
- co-ordinated responses of local agencies to film production enquiries
- marketed the area to film producers and location advisors and encouraged on-location production.
- worked with tourism development agencies and local businesses to follow up associated tourism development opportunities.
Promotions have included
- the ongoing development of the film locations database
- a dedicated Scottish Borders Film Focus website (external link)
- familiarisation trips for film makers & location managers
- attendance at key film fairs/ events.
As part of the process to encourage on-location production, a Film Charter, Code of Practice and Environment Friendly Filming leaflet have been developed and adopted to promote the Scottish Borders as a film friendly area.
