What is Objective 3 funding?
The European Social Fund (ESF) was set up to improve employment opportunities in the European Union. The fund is shared between different objectives or programmes.
The main ESF programme in Scotland is Objective 3 which covers the whole of lowland Scotland (ie not Highlands & Islands). The strategic aim of Objective 3 is to support economic growth in Scotland.
The Scottish Borders is covered by the Lowland Scotland European Objective 3 Programme for 2000-2006. Scottish Borders Council has made bids for some of this funding which has resulted in a number of successful projects.
