- The diversification and strengthening of farm businesses through the use of woodland or wood products developed from or on the property
- The improvement of the physical and safety environment of woodland for visitors, particularly women with young children and the disabled
- The research and piloting of wood as a fuel for local combined heat and/or power projects
- The promotion and marketing of Borders’ branded wood products
- Enabling local communities to celebrate and interpret woodlands, including cultural activities
- Recycling of wood products and the by-products of wood processing
- Training and education initiatives related to woodlands
