Licensing - Taxis and Private Hire Cars
The licensing of taxis and private hire cars is administered by this authority. Licence application forms and fare table can be accessed by using the following links.
The Council licenses approximately 250 vehicles as either taxis or private hire cars. All vehicles have undergone stringent
checks for road worthiness and drivers are subject to background checks by the police and Disclosure Scotland before their
licence is granted.
Taxis can be hired from taxi ranks (only in Galashiels or Peebles), or hailed in the street or prebooked by phone. Private
hire cars can only be hired by booking in advance. Some wheelchair accessible vehicles are available.
The fares are calculated using the fare table approved by the Council. For journeys outwith the Borders the fare should be negotiated before the journey begins.
