What can I learn?
We have instructors in the following instruments:
- brass - trumpet, trombone, cornet, euphonium
- guitar
- strings - violin, cello, viola
- woodwind - flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone
- percussion - drums, tuned percussion, timpani
Please contact us to find out what instruction is available in your school.
How will the lessons be organised?
Lessons are weekly and may be individual, pairs or group tuition depending on demand.
Will I miss any normal class lessons?
Pupils will be absent from their normal class work for the duration of the lesson. In high schools, timetables are organised on a rotational basis. This means that pupils won't miss the same lesson every week.
Will I get to play with other people?
Orchestras, bands and other instrumental groups are offered within schools and rehearsals are usually at lunchtime or out of school hours.
Do I have to buy my own instrument?
We do have a number of loan instruments available which can be organised through your instructor. However we do recommend purchasing an instrument if the child is keen and wants to progress further.
Will I be kept informed of progress?
Regular progress reports are provided as follows:
- P4-S3 in November and May
- S4-S6 in October and January
How much will it cost?
The first year of instruction is free unless the pupil plays more than one instrument. Thereafter, the charge is £125 per year payable in one full payment or 6 monthly instalments.
Exemptions from charges:
- families in recepit of free schools meals/school clothing and footwear allowance
- maximum charge for families where there are more than two pupils paying for instruction is £250
- pupils studying SQA music including free standing units (S3-S6)
Pupils studying SQA music including free standing units who have the loan of an instrument will be charged £58 for the loan of the instrument in a one-off payment.
