Further information
NHS Borders school nursing service aims to improve the health, well-being and protection of children, young people, families and their communities while paying particular attention to those that need it most.
Nurses working in schools are accessible to children, young people and their families and are able to respond flexibly to their needs. The nurses are key members of different teams, providing links between the community child health department, school and primary care teams.
The service supports children and young people to maximise their school experience through through the provision of health advice, information and support. This is also achieved through immunisation programmes, offering psychological and emotional support and the protection of families and children who may be vulnerable or have complex health needs.
Every Borders school has a named school nurse. The school nurse can be contacted through your child's school, your local health centre or the Child Health Department at the Borders General Hospital.
