Parental involvement

Help with parental involvement in schools

What are parent councils and how do I get involved?

Parent councils represent parents' views, support schools working with pupils and parents, promote contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and report to the Parent Forum.

Why do parents get involved in a child's learning?

Both parents and children benefit if parents get involved in their children's education, whether at school or at home.

Parental Involvement Policy

The aim of the policy is for all parents to be fully informed about their child's education, feel welcomed and involved in their child's school, be encouraged to express views about their child's education and have confidence in their views being listened to.

Does Scottish Borders Council provide support for parent councils?

We provide support in a variety of ways including financial, forums, groups, training and membership to the Scottish Parent Teacher Council.
