The Council, along with our partner agencies, has signed up to the use of an Integrated Assessment Framework (IAF). This is part of the Scottish Government's overarching children's policy, Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC).
What is the Integrated Assessment Framework?
The IAF looks at the full range of a child's needs. Most children's needs can be met through the "universal services" of health and education. However some children will have extra or multiple needs that require support from several different agencies.
The IAF provides clear guidance and processes, including a consent protocol, for holding, analysing, recording and sharing information about a child or young person. The guidance also provides integrated inter-agency processes and formats for reviewing and reporting on needs and plans.
IAF forms have been designed for use in almost all situations where there is multi-agency involvement with a child. This includes reports to the Children's Hearing system, Looked After Children reviews and Child Protection Case Conferences. Some specific assessment and planning materials are used in addition to the IAF forms. These include Co-ordinated Support Plans and Risk Assessment Tools.
Well being indicators
The Framework is based around seven indicators of wellbeing which are: Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected and Responsible, and Included (SHANARRI). Achieving these outcomes for young people forms the basis of our vision, values and outcomes as agreed by the Children and Young People's Planning Partnership.
