HYPPE - Helping Young People Participate and Engage
What is HYPPE?
HYPPE was created in 2008 to provide opportunities to young people aged 12-25 years old to get involved in decision-making which effects them. HYPPE stands for Helping Young People Participate and Engage - and is one of the main ways that we consult with and listens to young people.
HYPPE panels
There are five locality HYPPE Panels in the Scottish Borders - each supported by a Participation Support Worker. The Panels meet regularly in their community to discuss local issues and priorities, to make responses to consultation topics, and to support Youth Chex activity such as grant-making and monitoring.
You can get in touch with your local HYPPE Panel by contacting the local worker.
Learning and development
Young people involved in HYPPE are provided with learning and development opportunities through informal training in decision-making, group work, communication, planning and evaluation. Young people have the opportunity to work towards the achievement of:
- Dynamic Youth Awards
- Youth Achievement Awards
- Participative Democracy Certificate
- MV Awards (Volunteer Hours)
- You Vol Awards (Volunter Hours)
All of the learning opportunities provided are delivered within a Youth Work approach and contribute to the Curriculum for Excellence.
