What if I don't pay?

- we will send you a written notice for the outstanding amount to be paid within 7 days
- if this happens again we will send you a further reminder
- if there's a further instalment remaining unpaid after the due date, you will have to pay the full year's balance
- if you don't pay, you are liable to pay the arrears plus the amount due for the remainder of the year.
Legal action
We can take legal proceedings for recovery of the total amount due (after serving a notice requiring payment of that balance within 14 days).
If this happens the Sheriff will grant a summary warrant against you. This means you will have to pay a 10% surcharge on the council tax outstanding and a Sheriff Officer will recover the arrears, in other words can arrest your wages, or bank accounts.
In addition you will have to tell the Sheriff Officer your employer's name and address and details of any bank or building society accounts you have.
We don't want to have to bring any action against you.
