Hillwalking in the Scottish Borders

Scotland's Great Trails maps and information

John Buchan Way - Side of Cademuir looking Towards Manor valley

The hills in the Scottish Borders fall within the Southern Uplands.  They are most appropriately described as rolling moorland hills. There are a number of quality hill walking days to be experienced in the area.

There are six long distance routes that fall wholly or partly within Scottish Borders. Each route has its own unique character - built heritage on the Borders Abbeys Way, pilgrammage to historic sites on St Cuthbert's Way and remote countryside on the Southern Upland Way.

The highest hill in our area is Broad Law rising to 840m (2755ft). With five other hills over 750m (2460ft) Scottish Borders has a long history of being a destination for hillwalkers.

Also present are hills that are part of regional and national hill lists. We have 38 Donald hills and 2 Corbetts.
