Sustainable procurement
Corporate Procurement Service
Address: Council Headquarters Newtown St Boswells Melrose TD6 0SA
There are standard Sustainability factors and measures which we take into account when tendering, they include:
Social and Ethical Responsibility
Tendering measures are taken to ensure that suppliers hold appropriate standards and these standards are maintained for its organisations and supply chain regarding legal, ethical and social issues including:
- health and safety
- security of employment rights
- equality
- corruption
- principles of fair trade.
Environmental Products
We can assist with greening the supply chain and will work with the business and suppliers, where appropriate, to increase the sourcing of products that reduce the adverse effects on the environment, whilst ensuring no degradation to the product quality.
Whole Life Costing
Sustainable Procurement must square with the efficiency agenda and offer value for money within the Public Sector, which means that costs and affordability must be addressed.
In some instances, particularly in the case of environmental issues, sustainable procurement can also bring down the whole life costs and improve the quality through recycle ability or a reduction in disposal costs.
These are legitimate value for money considerations when setting specifications and in making contract award decisions under EU Procurement Regulations.
