Kelso Townscape Heritage Initative area boundary
The Council has established the Kelso Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) which aims to regenerate the central part of the Kelso Conservation Area by providing grant aid to property owners.
This £1.4 million scheme is funded by the Council (£392,500); the Heritage Lottery Fund (£700,000) and Historic Scotland (£307,500).
How long will the scheme run?
The scheme is now running and a Project Officer is in post, grant offers will be able to be made to owners until March 2013, with all work to be complete on site by March 2015
What work is eligible for grant aid?
The grant scheme is available for traditional repairs and restoration works to eligible properties, including shop fronts. The work must be carried out to conservation standards.
Which properties are eligible?
The grant scheme is available for properties within the defined scheme boundary (see map below) in central Kelso. "Modern" properties built more recently will not normally be eligible.
What rate of grant aid will be available?
For smaller grants, grant aid will be in the range of 50-75% for repairs and up to 90% for reinstatement of original detail. Larger grants will be calculated on an individual basis based on the cost of the works necessary less the increased value of the property following completion of the project - this is called the "conservation deficit".
Contact the Project Officer for more information or to register potential interest in seeking grant aid.
