Scottish Occupational Road Safety Alliance (ScORSA)
Scottish Occupational Road Safety Alliance (ScORSA) driving help for business.
Driving is the most dangerous work activity that most people do.
Millions of vehicles are used for work on a daily basis. This includes, fleet vehicles owned by the employer,
as well as employees who use their own vehicle for work purposes - (the so called grey fleet).
It is estimated that between 25% and 33% of road accidents involve someone who was driving for work. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of accidents about 20 people are killed and 250 seriously injured every week in crashes involving someone who was driving, riding or otherwise using the road for work purposes.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) say that "health and safety law applies to on-the-road work activities as to all work activities and the risks should be effectively managed within a health and safety system".
HSE - Managing driving at work guidance.
Driving for Work is a guidance document for managers at managing at work driving.
Whether you manage 50 vehicles or just one or two, there is a duty of care on all employers to ensure they take appropriate steps to manage employees who drive any vehicle, including their own vehicle (grey fleet) for work purposes.
