How do I get a Social Care and Health service?

A short break is a way of providing you and your carer, if you have one, with a break away from the pressures and demands of the caring situation.  This enables people to recharge and cope better with life at home.

There are various ways to take a short break including:

  • in your home with people to support you
  • using a care home
  • following a hobby or interest
  • using self-catering accommodation.

Direct payments

You can arrange your own short break by using a direct payment.

Carebreaks website

The Carebreaks website was developed in partnership with The Princess Royal Trust Borders Carers Centre. The site provides information about the different ways people can choose to have a short break and how to go about getting the support required.
