If you are aged five or over and need someone to help you when travelling you can apply for a National Entitlement Card (NEC).

This lets you and your companion travel free on buses throughout Scotland.  You can still use your card even if you do not have anyone travelling with you.

How to apply

You have to fill in a form which you can get and return to any contact centre.

Return your completed form along with:

  • passport style photograph
  • proof of your address
  • proof of your entitlement to the card
  • proof of your age (if you are between 11 and 26)

The following documents can be used:

  • birth certificate
  • passport
  • photo driving licence

Proof of address

The following documents can be used:

  • bank or building society statement dated within the past three months
  • child benefit award letter
  • Council Tax bill for the current year
  • current television licence
  • gas, electricity or landline phone bill dated within the past three months

Entitlement

You will be entitled to a companion card if you:

  • receive attendance allowance
  • receive higher or middle rate care component of disability living allowance
  • live in a care or residential home
  • are registered blind
  • receive war pensions constant attendance allowance

Proof of your entitlement must be dated within the last 12 months.
