Child protection training

Awareness raising training level 1

The Scottish Borders Child Protection Committee is running a number of Child Protection awareness raising events throughout 2012.  These training sessions are open to anyone who works with or comes into contact with children or parents as part of their work, voluntary or leisure activities. 

The training is free and is provided by professionals working within the child protection field. Booking is essential.

Awareness raising training level 1 refresher

Who should attend:
This training opportunity is for all staff who have undertaken Level 1 child protection training in the last 4 years.

The training is a refresher / follow-up to Level I and the aim is to update the awareness of participants to issues of child protection. This training is free.

Aims:

  • to increase the awareness of staff and their responsibilities in child protection
  • to explore attitudes and values
  • to learn how to recognise children who may be in need of protection
  • to learn about the referral process
  • to consider information about additional areas of concern such as child trafficking

Participants will be able to:

  • recognise the signs and indicators of child abuse and neglect
  • understand their role in child protection
  • be aware of the referral process and their own agencies child  protection procedures, accountabilities and responsibilities

Assessment:
There is no formal assessment. Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance following completion of the course.

Multi-agency training level 2

This training is designed for practitioners, volunteers and managers from all agencies who are in regular contact or carry out direct work with children/young people and/or their parents/carers and who have an organisational duty to learn more about child protection.

You will work extensively within an inter-agency context, attend child protection multi-agency meetings and you may also have responsibility for the work of others.  It is a requirement that participants  have undertaken previous child protection training (i.e. Level 1 - Awareness Raising Training).
