Fly tipping is an increasing problem throughout the Scottish Borders. It generally consists of dumped waste on public or private land such as:
- old furniture
- household white goods
- construction debris
- grass cuttings
- etc.
Although fly tipping is illegal, punishable by heavy fines or even imprisonment, many irresponsible people still see this as an acceptable and easy method of waste disposal, despite jeopardising the environment and the obvious risks to both humans and animals.
Please play your part in protecting the environment by reporting any incidents of illegal dumping on publically owned land to our Wardens directly or by calling us on 0300 100 1800.
To report dumping on land in private ownership, for example farm woodland, contact the National Dumb Dumpers helpline on 08452 30 40 90 or report online to Dumb Dumpers.
Alternatively you can contact the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) on 01896 754797.
If you own private land where fly-tipping has occurred it is your responsibility to clear-up the area and dispose of waste correctly. Private landowners are advised to consider limiting vehicle access to sites where fly tipping regularly occurs.
