Bin collections
ASK Organic
Kerbside garden waste collections are provided in urban areas only. Home compost bins are provided in rural areas.
Service standards for garden waste collection:
- Green lidded bins for garden waste are collected on a fortnightly basis from March to November with monthly collections in December, January and February
- Present your green lidded garden waste bin at the kerbside by 7am on your designated collection day
- We provide one garden bin free of charge to households in a garden waste collection area
- The bin lifting equipment on our collection vehicles has a safety limit which means that excessively heavy bins won't be emptied
- If your garden bin contains materials other than those listed, we will advise you by placing a hanger on the bin. The bin will not be emptied as it may contaminate the whole load. The contamination must be removed and placed in the grey lidded general waste bin.
- Households that continue to place the wrong items in their garden bin will be visited by our recycling advisors
- We will advertise through the local media any changes due to public holidays at Christmas and New Year. There will be no change to collection arrangements on the other public holidays throughout the year.
Composting
We provide compost bins to all properties in rural areas so that households can compost their garden waste at home.
If you would like more information about composting, our composting partner ASK Organic. They also run a demonstration area at the woodside walled garden by Ancrum.
