Kerbside recycling service

Scottish borders residents currently recycle 40% of their rubbish. Help us make it 50% by 2013/14.

All household recycling material should be put in your blue lidded wheeled bin or recycling bags. Only a small number of households such as some flats and properties that do not have space for a recycling bin will continue to receive an annual supply of recycling bags.

Service standards for recycling collection

• Recycling is collected on alternate weeks - please see your calendar for your collection days
  
• All recycling wheeled bins/ recycling bags should be placed at the kerbside for collection by 7am on your designated collection day
• We provide blue lidded recycling wheeled bins free of charge
• Extra recycling material will be collected - please place it in bags (not black bags) beside your blue lidded bin
• Large cardboard boxes can be flat packed and also placed beside your blue lidded bin for collection
• If your household regularly has more recycling that can fit in your bin you can apply for a larger recycling bin
• If your recycling bin contains materials other than those listed above, the council will advise you by placing a hanger on the bin. The bin will not be emptied as it may contaminate the whole load. Contamination must be removed and placed in the grey lidded household bin. 
• Households that continue to place the wrong items in their recycling bin will be visited by our recycling advisors
• We will advertise through the local media any changes due to public holidays at Christmas, New Year and May Day. There will be no change to collection arrangements on the other public holidays throughout the year.
