The workshop will concentrate on Des Dillon's experiences writing scripts for the popluar BBC soap opera River City. He will show how a script finally emerges on to the television screen. There may be also the chance to have a go at writing a potential screenplay yourself!
Dillon is a writing phenomenon. From a working class background in Coatbridge, he has written for television, radio and stage. With a nose for street culture and language, he is a poet (Sniz, 1994), short story writer (The Big Empty, 1997) and has published 7 novels including Me and My Gal (Luath, 1995) which was shortlisted for the Saltire First Book of the Year Award and voted winner of The World Book Day survey to find the book that revealed the most about contemporary Scotland. Add to this the commercially successful play Six Black Candles (2004), a writing residency at Castlemilk, Glasgow 1998-2000 and Dillon emerges as the fully rounded modern Scottish writer. His latest book is The Glasgow Dragon (Luath Press). Find out what the reality of writing for a soap opera may entail. Limited numbers. Book early to avoid disappointment. |
