7000 citroen owners from around the world converge on Kelso to celebrate all that is 2CV.

Over 3,000 Citroën 2CV cars and over 7,000 visitors will descend on the Scottish Borders this Summer as part of a World Meeting of 2CV Friends.

2CV enthusiasts from as far afield as New Zealand, America, Japan, Canada, Slovenia and Luxembourg have announced their plans to attend, joining representative from France, Germany, the UK and many other countries. It is expected to benefit the local economy to the tune of £1.4 million.

Local amenities and suppliers in the area will have to be well prepared to ensure that our international visitors have a great time in the region. This is a great opportunity to highlight the Scottish Borders and its beautiful countryside and attractions to a large international audience.
The first Citroen 2CV was produced in 1938 by Jules Boulanger, joint managing director of Citroen with Pierre Michelin.  The brief was for a "spartan form of transport for those of modest means", however with the start of the Second World War, production was suspended and it was only in 1948 that the car was finally unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.  While motoring journalists described it as "the ugliest car in the world", the public took it to their hearts and by the mid 1950s, more than 1,000 2CVs were being sold every week. By the 1960s, sales had rocketed to nearly 800 a day.
The car was eventually produced in more than 300 different versions and manufactured in 14 different countries.  By the time the last 2CV rolled off the production line in 1990, nearly 7 million cars had been made. Watch out for these much adored cars on the roads across the region. Access to the 2CV Museum, Floors Castle, is included in normal Castle entry fee.

Walk around Kelso Town Square on Wednesday afternoon, to view the several hundred 2CV cars on display.

On Saturday 30th July a display of 30 cars will be featured at the Border Union Show.
