A tale of passion, mystery and murder.

Friends of Kelso Library present a Talk by Ivy Elder

Defendant in the sensational murder trial, 19th century socialite Madeleine Smith, was charged with the murder of her lover Pierre Emile L'Angelier.  After a nine day trial the jury returned a verdict of "Not Proven", a verdict peculiar to Scottish law. Ivy Elder talks about the story of Madeleine's life after the trial.
