Director Harry Fehr and a cast of seven young and talented singers, accompanied by members of the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, bring to life this touching story of the triumph of love over malice.

Cinderella is one of the most popular fairy tales ever written. In Rossini's 1817 version, La Cenerentola, the heart of the much-loved story remains, though much of the magical fantasy is replaced with social satire. A lively and vibrant comedy, this new production is set during the Regency period, with all the style and elegance of Jane Austen’s England.  Amid the drawing rooms and the ballrooms of early nineteenth century society, vanity is rebuked, pomposity punished and snobbery upturned.  One of the leading bel canto (beautiful song) operas, Cinderella is a showcase for exquisite music and vocal fireworks. The great final aria, 'Sad no longer among the cinders' is one of the most flamboyant in any of Rossini's operas.
