  • Pentland Drovers Walk Archaeology Month
    Where: Pentland Hills, Carlops
    When: Sunday, September 28 2008 10:00 - 16:30
    Accompanied by the Council’s Archaeologist and one of the Countryside Rangers, take a hike in the Pentland Hills. Passing North Esk Reservoir, the Bore Stone, Cauldstane Slap and Baddinsgill Reservoir. 
  • Cauldshiels Loch and the Eildon Hills
    Where: Melrose area, Melrose

     An 8 mile/13km walk from Melrose via Rhymer’s Glen over Cauldshiels Hill and onto the Eildon Hills. Lots of fine views and wildlife to be seen on this varied walk. Total climb 1,450ft/450m Meet outside MELROSE Tourist Information Centre (opposite the Abbey), NT 547341.

    WALK - EASY/MODERATE It’s Archaeology month! Join Walk it and Scottish Borders Council’s Archaeologist to look at an ancient Borders settlement. Our walks are easy but there may be some rough ground and a few hilly bits. Meet in Broughton Village, NT 112361. Walks are free. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Yetholm      Scottish Archaeology Month event  -ranger led walk                                 
    Where:  , Kirk Yetholm

    A 10 mile/16km circular walk with SBC’s archaeologist. The route leaves Kirk Yetholm by St Cuthbert’s Way then follows the Curr Burn up onto the Schil and returns via the Pennine Way. With fine views into the heart of the Cheviot Hills and over the Scottish Borders. Total climb 1,600ft/500m.

    This section of the Borders Abbeys Way takes us through farmland and forestry following part of the old Thief’s Road. A variety of wildlife and flowers should be seen and good views from Wollrig and Drinkstone Hill. A total distance of 12 miles/19km with a climb of 1,200ft /370m.
