Borders Abbeys Way - Melrose to Newtown St Boswells Walk

Walk along this newly opened section of the Borders Abbeys Way.

The route takes us along Priors Walk, past the Rhymers Stone and over the Dryburgh Suspension Bridge to Dryburgh Abbey. Follow the Tweed to Mertoun Bridge. We then join St Cuthberts Way to return to Newtown via the riverside. A total distance of 9 miles/ 14kms. No dogs. Free transport provided to the start of walk. Meet at visitors car park for Scottish Borders Council, Newtown St Boswells. (NT 5763).

This walk is suitable for most people of average fitness. Under 13s must be accompanied by an adult.

Starting times for the events will be strictly adhered to, but finishing times are approximate. The starting points are indicated by a grid reference. The approximate time involved for each activity is given. The leader will turn out irrespective of weather conditions. The decision whether or not to proceed will be made at that time.

For the hikes it is essential that you bring a packed lunch and that you are well equipped for hill walking. Clothing should include a good pair of walking boots and warm and waterproof clothing (jacket/ trousers). Gloves and balaclava, whistle and torch, a hot drink, spare pair of socks and jersey and emergency rations should be carried in a rucksack or similar, especially during the winter months.
